BEST BAMBOO LAUNDRY BASKET OVERALL: LUMALAND
The best bamboo laundry basket overall goes to Lumaland as voted for by the majority of the sustainable living community and also ourselves.
Having had this bamboo laundry basket for the past few months we’ve been highly impressed with all aspects of it including its beautiful minimalistic design.
As bamboo experts we can tell that the highest quality of bamboo has also been used to form the structure which means it’s incredibly sturdy and is able to store the bulky laundry powder (10KG in weight) we use on top of it without any issues. We should note that it’s still rock solid even though the one we have had slightly misaligned screws when it was put together.
A great feature is that the baskets themselves come in a variety of different colours. We opted for the white bamboo laundry basket which fits our minimalistic look but you can choose from colours including dark red, grey or olive. Along with these colours they have many more and so the basket will fit in seamlessly with your decor style which is always a bonus.
In terms of capacity, both baskets combine to make around 60L of space which is an ideal amount for around 2-3 days’ worth of clothes for a small family.
We should also talk about the fact that the two pull out compartments makes it incredibly useful for organising your washes. For example, if you do a whites wash and colours wash separately, you can simply pop your whites in one compartment and your colours in another. Overall, it saves precious time instead of having to sift through all of your dirty clothes and organising them before a wash.
Overall, this is the best bamboo laundry basket due to its quality build, aesthetically pleasing look and practicality. Well worth the investment.
Pros:
- Easy assembly with no need for drilling
- Made from high quality and durable bamboo
- 60L capacity is ideal for small families
- Can be doubled up as a shelf to store anything from detergent to scented candles
Cons:
- A bit pricey
- The screw in points are ever so slightly misaligned
BEST GREY BAMBOO LAUNDRY BASKET: SONGMICS
If you’re looking for a grey bamboo laundry basket to complement your decor style then the unanimous choice among our sustainable living experts would be the one manufactured by Songmics.
The Songmics laundry basket, apart from looking stunning in a distressed grey colour, has a number of features that make it a valuable purchase.
Firstly, the clip on lid design is an upgrade to what Songmics used to use (which was prone to misalignment). Now the lid clicks on seamlessly and ensures odour is kept inside the basket at all times.
Secondly, the laundry basket is fully lined with solid and durable bamboo. This means the basket will keep its shape regardless of how many clothes you try to stuff in there. Moreover, this bamboo lining means it can handle roughly 25kg worth of clothing or bed linen.
The basket does arrive flat-packed but fortunately it has easy to follow instructions which means you don’t have to spend all day trying to put the thing together unlike with some other solid laundry baskets.
Finally, like Lumaland’s laundry basket, this one has 2 sections which means you won’t have the inconvenience of separating whites, delicates or colours.
Overall, you’ll buy it for it’s stunning grey colour but love it for the extremely useful and convenient features.
Pros:
- Comes in a stunning distressed grey which fits in well with modern looking bathrooms
- The solid bamboo outer lining keeps its shape even when fully loaded
- Perfectly sized with a 100L capacity
- Easy-to-follow instructions makes assembly a breeze
- Comes with a clip on lid that keeps odour from spilling out into your room
- The inner compartments are removable which means you don’t need to take the entire basket with you to the washing machine
Cons:
- The lid strength isn’t high so it’s best not to force it shut otherwise it could break
BEST BAMBOO CORNER LAUNDRY BASKET: ENYAA
If you’re looking for a corner laundry basket made out of bamboo, you don’t need to look much further than Enyaa.
A perfect space-saving laundry basket, Enyaa have created something that is not only highly practical but looks great in any bathroom too.
This laundry basket has a number of features but what perhaps sets it apart from the majority of brands to make our list is the fact that it has 2 holes in the base of the basket which provides it with a bit of breathability. This makes it ideal for storing wet clothing or wet towels without the risk of moisture building up which is known to facilitate mould growth.
In terms of stability the natural bamboo gives it enough sturdiness to keep it’s shape although it might collapse under the weight of over-eager kids climbing on it. If you intend to use it between two walls then this isn’t really an issue anyway. It also has the ability to be folded which makes it easier to store when you need to.
Another positive of this bamboo laundry basket is how it contains a removable cotton inside that has been precisely stitched and therefore doesn’t fall apart. This cotton inside can also be washed with your laundry to keep it clean.
The capacity is just over 100L which, depending on how often you wash your clothes, is useful for a family of 4.
Unfortunately there’s no separator within the laundry basket which means all clothes essentially go into the same basket. This of course means you’ll need to manually separate whites from colours before loading your washing machine which isn’t ideal for those busy bees out there.
Pros:
- Provides appropriate breathability for wet clothing or towels
- Saves space by fitting into corners of rooms
Cons:
- No separators means all clothing and bedspreads need to go in one basket
- The lid isn’t attached to the basket
BEST BAMBOO LAUNDRY BASKET WITH A LID: BRIAN AND DANY
Buying a bamboo laundry basket with a lid is an ideal choice for anyone who works labour-intensive jobs or are highly active day-to-day. Why? If that’s you then it’s likely that your clothes are dirtier or sweatier than the average person’s! And that’s where the lid comes into play. Nobody wants their laundry basket stinking out the whole room so a secure lid that’s attached to the laundry basket is an ideal solution.
With this in mind, if you’re looking for a bamboo laundry basket with a lid, we’d highly recommend the brand Brian and Dany.
Brian and Dany’s laundry basket not only has a lid, but it has a number of features that make it a valuable addition to any home. Like some other’s listed in this article, it has a fabric separator that’s invaluable for sorting your clothing whilst avoiding taking up any unnecessary space.
It also has a huge 100L storage capacity which means you can store clothing for up to a few days. The inside is also removable which makes transporting it from upstairs to downstairs very easy.
Overall, this laundry basket is discreet, practical but most importantly has a highly effective lid to keep odour at bay.
Pros:
- Has a secure but removal lid
- Folds down easily and is easy to assemble/reassemble
- Contains two compartments to separate clothing
- Has a high capacity
Cons:
- The overall build isn’t as sturdy as we’d like it to be which makes dumping large piles of laundry in a challenge
BEST WHITE BAMBOO LAUNDRY BASKET: SONGMICS
Songmics once again get our vote in a best colour category – this time as the best white bamboo laundry basket.
Truth be told, you’re better off reading our review above for Songmic’s grey basket. The baskets are exactly the same in structure and materials – the only difference is that this one comes in white!
BUDGET CHOICE: COUNTRY CLUB
Bamboo laundry baskets aren’t the most affordable household items in the world but fortunately there are a few gems out there at an affordable price.
One of which is provided by Country Club and is a shade under £20 which is comparable to other laundry baskets on the market that aren’t as durable or frankly as nice to look at as bamboo!
The dimensions of 40cm x 30cm x 60cm means this basket is able to hold around 3 loads of washing which is certainly ideal for most families.
It’s also got admirable sturdiness for such a cheap product and also has a lid (which isn’t attached we should note).
Overall, this is a handy basket to have if you don’t want to pay the premium prices bamboo laundry baskets usually come at. We would say it’s definitely better and more eco-friendly than the alternatives at this price range.
Pros:
- Cheap yet durable
- Can carry around 3 loads’ worth of clothing
- Looks sophisticated
Cons:
- The lid doesn’t sit properly on the basket
- Not as sturdy as more premium brands
BAMBOO LAUNDRY BASKET BUYER’S GUIDE
When it comes to buying a bamboo laundry basket there’s a few things you should keep in mind.
Durability
One of the main benefits of bamboo is that it’s one of the most durable materials around. This makes it ideal for storage yet there’s a few cheap brands on the market who use bamboo purely for decorative effect. It’s best to avoid these brands as your laundry basket won’t benefit from the bamboo lining.
Capacity
When it comes to choosing a laundry basket based on capacity, a general rule is to make sure you’ve got at least 25L per adult. Children’s clothing is obviously smaller so isn’t such a worry. Couples should aim for a minimum of 60L whereas large families might want to purchase something in the 100L+ region.
Shape
Shape and sturdiness should also play a part in your decision making. If you want to save space then a corner basket would be the way to go. If you have a small bathroom and prefer to store your laundry basket away then it makes sense to buy a collapsible laundry basket. Alternatively, if you have a bit of space then large baskets won’t give you any headaches.
Aesthetics
In my opinion there’s very little that compares to the aesthetics of bamboo. It’s elegant, minimalistic and natural. The highly versatile look should complement most interiors but just be careful that coloured bamboo might not always look the same as it does in product images that have likely been contrasted and brightened.
SUMMARY
Overall, investing in a bamboo laundry basket is a wise choice – not just for the eco-friendly properties of the material but because of its durability and elegance.
Whilst our favourite is the one manufactured by Lumaland, there are plenty on our list that sustainable living experts swear by.
Ultimately, it’s best to choose something that you think will complement the look of your interior but my advice would be to purchase something based on practical needs first.
